Foil cover

The first physical print uses a textured foil cover. It is packaging, not a separate game edition, and it ends when that print ends.

What the foil cover is

Wikipedia, Beebom, and a 360游戏 comparison all describe a textured foil cover on the first physical print. The foil has a metallic sheen and curved lines. A plain cover exists beside it. Nintendo treats the foil as a first-print package, not as a pre-order gift.

One Chinese article says the foil is on European and North American boxes and is absent from the Japanese and wider Asian print. Nintendo has not published a region-by-region foil list, so that regional split stays at one source. Do not buy a Japanese box expecting the foil.

Check the product title and the package photo. If the listing does not say first print or show the foil, assume you might receive the plain cover. Importing a box from another region to chase the foil can also change the language and the bonuses.

Questions

Is the foil cover a different game?

No. It is a first-print box. The game on the card is the same.

Does Japan get the foil?

One source says no. Nintendo has not confirmed a full region list, so I am not promising foil on a Japanese box.

Is it a pre-order bonus?

Beebom treats it as first-print packaging, not a strict pre-order gift. Shop gifts are on the bonuses page.
