Link

You play Link from the first minute in Kokiri Forest. He is still the Hero of Time, still a child and then an adult, and still someone who does not speak.

Two bodies, one sword arm

Kokiri Forest is the opening. The boy in green is not a Hylian neighbor. He is the child the Great Deku Tree sends out, and seven years later he is tall enough for the Master Sword’s adult route. Those two bodies are not costumes. The child uses the Kokiri Sword, the slingshot, and the smaller tunnels. The adult uses the bigger blades, the bow, and the hookshot. I am keeping that split because the item list and the dungeon order still depend on it.

Combat in the 2026 version asks you to jump and to dash on purpose. The camera can swing around him. Aiming can use the console’s motion. The 1998 game jumped for you and held the camera on rails. I read that difference on the store page, in the encyclopedia entry, and in IGN’s review. It changes how a corridor feels even when the boss at the end has the same name.

Around him, cutscenes are spoken. He is not. No English actor is credited, and I will not invent one. Navi talks. Zelda talks. Ganondorf talks. The green hat stays quiet, which is the same storytelling choice as 1998, now surrounded by real sentences.

The face people are arguing about

The new model is part of the puppet-inspired cast. Polygon and TechRadar both record players calling faces doll-like, and Link is one of the three names that come up with Zelda and Ruto. IGN’s puppetry piece treats that look as a deliberate Miyamoto-adjacent choice, not a broken export. I am leaving both descriptions up. A “creepy” reaction and a “this is the style” reaction are not a bug ticket I can close.

amiibo of Young Link, due in 2027, unlock a retro-style mask. That is a figure bonus, not a third playable body. Existing Zelda figures also scan. I am not turning those scans into a Link build guide.
