2026 rebuild versus the 1998 game

Nintendo rebuilt the 1998 game. It is not a texture pass on the Nintendo 64 version. The map of regions is still the same kind of journey.

What changed

The picture is a new production the developers call stylized realism, with materials and lighting the Nintendo 64 could not draw. Cutscenes are fully voiced and Link still does not speak. You jump and dash yourself, the camera is free, aiming can use motion controls, and songs can be hummed into the Switch 2 microphone.

Hyrule Castle Town is a 3D place you walk, including interiors, instead of a pre-rendered backdrop. Time keeps moving indoors. Threads of Time is a quest log. Hall of Fallen Foes, also called Hall of Defeated Foes, lets you view statues and fight bosses again.

What I will not claim

Nintendo has not published a full change list. Nintendo Life estimates that about 10 percent of puzzles and locations changed. That is one outlet’s estimate, so I am not writing it as an official share. IGN notes the Water Temple has fewer small keys. Loading screens still appear in some areas.

Questions

Is the remake the same game?

It is the same story and region structure, rebuilt with new controls, voice, and spaces such as Castle Town.

Does it include Master Quest?

No. Master Quest is absent. The 2003 and 2011 versions had it.

Is the logo different?

The gold wordmark still reads The Legend of Zelda and Ocarina of Time. Packaging comparisons are in the foil-cover page.
